NO DRIVER FOR ADAPTEC AHA-2940U2W SCSI-2 ADAPTER OPTION

Odd, I just tested the 320 driver again on my windows 10 pc (did a clean install a few months ago). I downloaded the driver, ran the.exe and it placed the drivers in c: adaptec scsi. I was able to select the card in device manager and update/install the driver (selecting c: adaptec scsi as the source folder), and Windows 10 recognized the card.

SYMPTOMS:
ServerGuide 4.1 currently does not provide a driver for 'Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter' resulting in Windows NT 4.0, Novell NetWare 4.11, SCO OpenServer 5.X and UnixWare 7.X cannot install to drives attached to this adapter.


PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

  • The system is configured with the following Adaptec adapter:

    Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter

  • The system is configured with one of the following:
    Novell NetWare 4.11
    Windows NT 4.0
    SCO OpenServer 5.X
    SCO UnixWare 7.X

  • The 7800 Family Manager Device Driver for the Adaptec Adapter is affected.


WORKAROUND:
If your server has an 'Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Wide ULTRA2 SCSI Adapter' installed, you will need to download the 7800 Family Manager Set version 3.02 (or later) driver set from the following Adaptec WEB page:

DETAILS:
The steps for each NOS are listed below:

  • You can only use the Software Guide (Customized Installation with Set-up diskettes) method.
  • SG will ask you to insert the NT CD.
  • NT Set-up will show you a screen with two options while detecting the system devices, choose the following:

    To specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk controllers for use with Windows NT, including those for which you have a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer, press S.

  • Then Set-up asked to insert the disk labeled 'Manufacturer supplied hardware support disk' into drive A:.
  • Insert the diskette with the drivers for NT.
  • After that, the installation continued as usual and worked without problems.
  • Novell NetWare 4.11
    1. SG won't list in the supported Adapters screen the Adaptec W2 PCI SCSI adapter, but if you continue will copy the rest of the new drivers required for your system, and then will prompt you to insert your Novell CD.
    2. Begin with the installation following the Novell set-up program prompts.
    3. When a screen appears that asks you to select a disk driver, press Insert.
    4. Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set diskette for NetWare into your disk drive.
    5. Press F3 and specify the path to the aic78u2.ham driver for NetWare.
    6. Select AIC78U2.HAM and press Enter.
    7. Press Alt-ESC. From the console prompt type the following:

      'load a:netwareiac78u2.ham'

    8. Press Enter.
      • You may use Software Guide to install this card without requiring the new driver.
  • SCO OpenServer 5.0.X.
    1. SG won't list in the supported Adapters screen the Adaptec W2 PCI SCSI adapter, but if you continue will provide you with the rest of new diskette drivers required for your system, then will prompt you to insert your SCO CD .
    2. An example of a valid boot string to use at the SCO boot prompt is:

      restart link=blad325 Sdsk=blad(0,0,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0,0)

    3. After kernel loads but before it runs, 'link' prompts you to insert '7800 Family Manager' diskette.

      Note: You will be notified that an existing aladinit driver already exists and asked which routine you wish to replace.
      Choose routine 31 to replace and continue with the installation.

  • SCO UnixWare 7.0.X
    1. Begin the installation.
    2. When a message appears asking if you want to install any HBA diskettes, insert the '7800 Family Manager' which contains the UnixWare Device Driver, then, select the INSTALL HBA DISKETTE.
    3. Continue with the installation.

Preconfiguration Information

  • Multi-initiator configurations are not supported.

  • The Plug N Play SCAM Support option is not supported.

  • Ensure that the Adaptec SCSISelect BIOS option Reset SCSI Bus at IC Initialization (under the Advanced Configuration Options menu) is set to Enabled. Run the SCSISelect utility by pressing Ctrl-A when you see the Adaptec banner during system boot.

  • Reboot the system after you install patches.

  • If you are both upgrading your Solaris Intel Platform Edition installation and adding a new device driver, you must first upgrade Solaris, then reboot your system, and then apply the Driver Update (DU), as follows.

    1. Perform the Solaris upgrade. Do not apply the cadp DU at this time.

    2. Reboot your system.

    3. When the system has rebooted successfully, insert the DU diskette into the diskette drive and apply the DU as follows.

      Mount the DOS formatted file system:

      Change directories:

      Install the DU:

      Perform a reconfiguration reboot.

Known Problems and Limitations

  • If you experience problems when using a narrow SCSI CD-ROM drive on the internal wide interface, disable 'negotiate wide,' 'negotiate sync,' or both for that device in the Adaptec configuration utility.

  • If you experience problems when using the narrow internal connector, then disable 'de-selection' in the Adaptec configuration utility.

  • The Fujitsu narrow disk (M1603SAU) has been observed reselecting with an invalid queue tag ID. This is a violation of the SCSI protocol and it causes the cadp driver to behave erroneously. Because this is difficult to guard against, it is best to disable tagged queuing for these targets.

    Use the iostat -E command to determine if you have a Fujitsu M1603S-512 disk. If you do, edit the /kernel/drv/cadp.conf file and add the property target n-scsi -options=0x1f78, where n is the target number.

  • The IBM external wide disk (DFHSS2W, Revision 1717) is not supported.

Configuration Procedure

Using the Adaptec configuration utility:

  • Configure each SCSI device to have a unique SCSI ID. On the Advanced Configuration Options menu, set Plug N Play SCAM Support to Disabled.

    Ensure that devices on either end of the SCSI chain are terminated. When mixing wide (16 bits) and narrow (8 bits) devices on the same wide chain, ensure that a wide device is at the end of the chain. If a narrow device is placed at the end of the chain, the wide devices on the same chain only have the low byte terminated, and this is an illegal configuration.

  • If there is more than one controller (or an embedded controller), try to use one IRQ per controller.

  • Enable bus mastering for the slot(s) with your host bus adapter(s), when asked.

  • For older disk drives, tape drives, and most CD-ROM devices, make sure the maximum SCSI data transfer speed is set to 5.0 Mbps.

  • Enable support for disks larger than 1 Gbyte if applicable.
